The Canon EF 28-80 f/ 3.5-5.6 USM is the first version of a low-end kit lens with a 28-80 mm variable focal length for Canon EOS film and digital SLR cameras.

Canon issued five variants of the lens, each of which had two versions: with and without USM.

This first variant of the lens is considered to be the most successful. Its optical scheme had never been borrowed by the lenses of this series.
